Clinical Governance Lead for Emergency Medicine in York, RCEM Examiner and Honorary Senior Lecturer at Hull York Medical School. He has more than 20 years of Emergency Medicine experience, with particular interests in medical education, clinical governance, patient safety and supporting Portfolio Pathway doctors.

Dr Matt Harris

Dr Matt Harris is a Consultant in Critical Care and Emergency Medicine at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, having completed his specialist training in Emergency Medicine and Critical Care in 2022.
Matt is the Clinical Supervisor responsible for Emergency Medicine doctors undertaking the Portfolio Pathway who rotate through Critical Care, supporting them during their three-month attachments. He has experience supporting doctors with their clinical development, workplace-based assessments and the development of evidence for their Portfolio Pathway applications.
He is also a medical appraiser and is involved in postgraduate medical education, teaching on a range of life support courses, including ALS, EPALS, ATLS and ETC. Alongside his educational roles, he is the Critical Care Audit and Quality Improvement Lead and Critical Care Ultrasound Lead at Sherwood Forest Hospitals, and also works as a HEMS doctor for the Air Ambulance Service.
Dr Mohamed “Shaban” Abouelatta

Shaban is a Consultant in Emergency Medicine with more than 20 years of experience in emergency departments across different healthcare systems. He is the department’s current Quality & Audit Lead at King’s Mill Hospital and will share the applicant’s side of the route in the “Voices from the route” session.
Dr Saqib Khan

Saqib is a Specialty Doctor in Anaesthetics & Critical Care at Sherwood Forest Hospitals, where he has worked since 2021, and is the Trust’s current SAS Tutor. He has more than 16 years of clinical experience across healthcare systems in the Middle East and Pakistan, and supports SAS doctors with their professional development and career progression.

Dr Mohammad Irfan is a Consultant in Emergency Medicine with over 18 years of experience and joined the GMC Specialist Register through the Portfolio Pathway in 2026. He holds a postgraduate diploma in Medical Education and is a member of the NHS AI Ambassador Network and the RCEM Learning Editorial Board.
His interests include medical education, portfolio supervision, faculty development and supporting SAS and locally employed doctors. He was awarded a fellowship for a project with regional impact focused on supporting Portfolio Pathway doctors. His work includes developing guidance books for Portfolio Pathway applicants and supervisors, and contributing to faculty development and Portfolio Pathway development days.

The conference is held in Lecture Theatre 1 of the King's Mill Conference Centre — a 120-seat tiered lecture theatre with full audio-visual and video-conferencing facilities, located on the King's Mill Hospital site.

By car
The hospital is easily reached from junctions 28 and 29 of the M1, and from the A38. On-site car parks use a ticketless number-plate (ANPR) system — no ticket needed; pay before leaving. By train & bus
The nearest stations are Mansfield (next to the bus station, with buses to the hospital every ten minutes) and Sutton Parkway (bus stop on Low Moor Road, a short walk from the station). The Stagecoach number 1 bus stops on the hospital grounds, close to the main entrance.
Attending online
Online delegates receive a joining link by email before the conference — no travel required. The session is broadcast live from the lecture theatre with the same programme as in-person attendance.

Is the conference only for Emergency Medicine doctors?
The programme is built around the Emergency Medicine Portfolio Pathway. It is most relevant to EM applicants and the supervisors, consultants and programme leads supporting them.
Is it suitable if I am early in the pathway?
Yes. Understanding the evidence requirements and gaps early can prevent wasted effort later. The day is also relevant to doctors approaching submission.
Can educational and clinical supervisors attend?
Yes. Supervisors and consultants supporting Portfolio Pathway doctors are specifically included in the intended audience.
Will the online option be live?
Yes. The conference is hybrid, with live online access. Joining instructions will be sent to online delegates before the event.
Will I receive a certificate?
Certificate of attendance provided. Up to 6 hours of CPD can be claimed.
What happens after I book?
